Regulating the scalp can make or break your hair growth goals. Here’s how!

When you are growing your healthy hair to new heights there are some protective measures you must have in place to ensure that you receive consistent results.

The first of which has to do with the roots!  This is where the magic happens.  As human nature would dictate, it is natural to look to the ends of our tendrils to see the growth.  However with any goal you set, you must look at the root of the problem to get to your end result.

The hair follicle is the point at which new hair sprouts from your scalp.  You can grow strong hair or weak hair based on your daily lifestyle, which includes the food that you consume, vitamins you take, as well as the amount of water you drink and sleeping patterns.  All factors of one’s lifestyle affect the growth patterns for better or for worse.   For example, with lack of sleep, inconsistent nutrients, or dehydration, your body will not have the necessary energy to produce strong hair strands to support your goals.  However when these things are present you will notice your body get to work to create the best hair.

What is difficult to detect at the scalp is the amount of hair sebum that is produced through the sebaceous glands.  This sebum is your natural oil, which lubricates the scalp and supports the hair follicle and hair shaft.  Based on the density and length of your hair, that sebum will naturally spread throughout the strands and protect them from the elements.  Highly textured hair has the most trouble with dry hair and that is in direct response to the many twist and turns of the curl pattern, making it difficult to travel down to the end of the length.  Lack of lubrication at the ends could cause dryness and ultimately breakage, putting a harsh STOP to hair lengthening goals.

This however does not support the ideal environment for hair to grow at its height, which is roughly ½ inch per month.  So you see it takes two things to grow hair:

1.    Growing Strong hair at ½ inch per month.

2.    Caring for the existing hair from root to tip to prevent breakage.

Therefore regulating sebum flow is important.  You can do this by making sure your scalp is clean, allowing for regular flow in harmony with the body.  Use a clean, sulfate free shampoo, as needed which should be about every 1-2 months for deep clarifying.  Consider Pure Curls, the best shampoo for curly hair and commit to a hair care regimen that provides high quality care with the best curly hair products.  These products should moisturize the hair and cleanse the scalp to regulate the production of glands.  Every cleanse sends a message to the scalp that there is a need for more oil and so the body will supply.

Cleanse your hair regularly and use a conditioner wash in between for additional hydration.  Follow with a conditioner and a leave in conditioner to aid with styling.  Seal the moisture deal with moisturizing oil like Champagne and Caviar Curl Elixir on the ends.  With this type of care, you should be able to meet your ½ inch per month growth goal while retaining the hair you have!  Best wishes!

Ready for a New Look? Here are 3 ways to Update Your Look for this Fall Season!

Fall is here!  Way to kick it off by updating your hair care routine and style.  The summer season ended with warm breezes, intense sunrays, and cool water.  Summer trends included free flowing curls, well defined locks and frizz free styles.  But change is upon us!  The fall trends include trendy headgear; sleek low do’s and smooth frizz free looks.  Here is how you can incorporate these looks into your new ‘do!

Trendy Headgear

Barrettes, bows and scarves are what’s hot this fall.  Decorate your curls with textured headwear this season starting with a palette of fresh curls as your style foundation.  Using the best products for curly hair, cleanse and condition your hair with CURLS Creamy Curls Cleanser and Coconut Curlada Conditioner to protect your curls against the change of the season.  Style with a curl defining styler like CURLS Gel-les’c for frizz free ringlets to last you all day long.  Top your luscious locks with your choice of head garments to upgrade your style in the last months of the year.

Sleek Low Do’s

Fresh locks this fall include sleek do’s but this time; direct your tendrils to the back of your head rather than the top of your head.  Smooth with products formulated for natural curly hair like CURLS Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Paste along the edges of the hairline and style your hanging curls with loose twists tucked around your ponytail with hairpins.

Smooth Frizz Free Locks

Finally, if you want to wear your hair out and about, opt for a smooth curl out with organic styling aids.  A curl control concoction will give you just the definition you need with a shiny finish.

Utilize one or more of these three fall trends this season to create your best looks of the year! Use them all in one day or alternate these trends for variety in your style regimen. Enjoy!

Styling Curly Hair Is Full of Surprises! Here’s How You Can Take Control of Your Curls!

Don’t let those curls get the best of you.  It’s time to take control of your hair and you CAN with the right styling products for curly hair.   With the right combination of products utilizing tried and true techniques, you can have tame curls or voluminous curls based on the look you want!  Here are some helpful tips to show those curls who’s boss!

1. Be Consistent in your Methods

Having lasting results requires consistent methods of hair care.  Good hair care products are a must, but if you only use them every now and again, you will not maximize their benefits.  Get the most out of your products by using them consistently.  Cleanse your hair at least once a week, follow with a healthy conditioner, use a leave in moisturizer and then you are ready to style.

2. Use Gentle, low pH products

When styling curly hair, use gentle products that will NOT cause a build up which hinders the styling process and can greatly impact your results.  Products that are near the pH balance of your natural hair are better at ensuring the results you are looking for.  CURLS Products for Curly hair are an excellent product brand for caring and styling your hair.

3. Use the smooth or shake method to achieve the best results.

When styling your curls, you have options.  Use the Curls Curl Gel-les’c for voluminous curls.  Apply to your strands after cleansing and conditioning by smoothing along the hair shaft.  Once dry, shake your hair for more and more volume.  For smoother curls, utilize the Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Jelly and smooth along the hair shaft with “prayer hands” for well defined, frizz free curls.  Finish either look with the CURLS Passion Fruit Curl Control Paste on your edges and/or ends for definition and medium hold.  For maximum hold, use the Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Paste.

These techniques along with these high caliber products will have your hair in its best condition and on it’s best behavior!

Choosing the Right Shampoo Could Make or Literally Break Your Curly Hair

What’s a girl to do when there are so many shampoos, cleansers, and now co-washes to choose from in the marketplace?  Well, although it can be difficult to choose, it’s in your BEST interest to make the right choice for your strands.  Here’s how!

Knowing what your hair needs and wants is the first step in making the right product decisions for your hair care routine! The best products for curly hair will include natural elements and extracts from plant based sources to nourish your hair from the inside out.By taking a look at the ingredients in the bottle as well as the product description you can tell a LOT about the quality of the product you are evaluating.   Look to make sure it is formulated for curly hair.  If it is, it should have loads of healthy ingredients that hold in the moisture of your hair and will not compromise its integrity.

The CURLS Creamy Curl Cleanser is a perfect selection for you and can easily be considered the best shampoo for curly hair and includes Carrot seed extract and Horse Chestnut Extract.  Even if you are wavy, curly or kinky, with your particular hair type in mind, this cleanser forms a gentle cream based lather to maintain your hydration while cleansing the hair of excess oil and irritants like toxins and pollutants from the elements.  This cleanser can be used as often as you need it, as it will not strip your hair of its goodness.  Follow all cleansing sessions with a complementary conditioner like the Coconut Curlada Conditioner to bring total balance to your hair.

So remember to look for your cleanser to be formulated for curly hair and check the back of the bottle to see if it includes natural extracts and other nourishing agents to protect your textured tendrils!
