Installing Twists on Your Little Girls Hair Takes Practice to Get Perfect

Some things that can appear so simple sometimes do not pan out to that way.  Twisting children’s hair can be both easy or could be challenging depending on the hair texture, your styling ability and of course, the child!  Installing twists consists of parting the hair in small sections, splitting the piece of hair in 2 parts and wrapping the two strands of hair around each other.  The curl of the hair will hold the twist so that it does not unravel.  This is a process that everybody can do.  No need to be a hair dressing pro for this one.  However, practice makes perfect.  It can be tough at first, so here are some ways you can ensure twisting success for your little one.

1. Determine if the child's hair is easier to twist wet or dry. You can tell by how difficult it is in either state. Always choose the easiest method for you and the child.  I find that my child's hair is easy to manipulate when wet and it tends to last longer when twisted in this state.  Ask your child which method feels better and watch to see how long it each method lasts.  Depending on your schedule time may be a very important factor.

2.  Next pin down a twist cream to aid you along the way.  Different formulas change the feasibility of styling the hair.  A slippery product will allow you to move effortlessly with the hair, which can be very helpful when starting this process for the first few times.  It is best to use a lighter cream for fine, loose textured hair and a heavy cream for thick, tight curly hair.  Naturally curly hair products will provide the most benefit to for curly hair.

3.  Take your time and twist neatly making sure each "wrap-around" is close together.  A close twist will ensure sustainability of the style.

Twists are one of the healthiest hair styles for curly hair types to wear.   Take your time and try it out, I promise, you will get better and better the more you try!
