Choosing the Right Style for Your Face Shape Could Make or Break Your Look

Have you ever wondered how one person can wear a certain style and it looks fabulous and then another person tries the style and the overall look is hideous?  Most of the time it is due to the wrong style being placed on the wrong face shape; especially when curly hair is involved.  Understanding face shapes will help you understand what curly looks will be best on you and which looks you should stay far away from.

The theory behind face shaping is that the ideal shape to aim for is the oval shape. That in no way would suggest that there is something wrong with your face shape, but instead it just gives you a guideline to go by.  When you try these traditional techniques, you can assess whether or not you like it.  The most important thing is that you wear your hair in a way that you deem flattering.

Here are some tips to try, based on your face shape:

Round- Long and lean hairstyles work best for this face shape.  Cut or style your hair in such a way that the hair hits below your chin or above your chin to allow your face to appear leaner.  The forward angled bob is a popular style for this face shape.

Square- Soft layers are your friends.  This face shape tends to be wide with an angled jaw line.  Soften your angles with round hair shapes that create movement.  Stay away from precisely cut straight lined bangs or sharp bobs.  Instead try more classic styles with flowing movement.

Heart- The heart face shape is wide at the onset of the face and gets smaller toward the chin.  Flatter your face by cutting your fringe with a bang.  It can be a straight across bang or side swept bangs, which are flirty and fabulous on this face shape.

Oval –Most any style is flattering to this face shape as this is considered the ideal shape for a face.  The only word of caution is to play with updos by styling at the crown of your head rather than directly piled on top of your head.  Try beachy waves with face framing layers or a neat bun at the side nape of your neck.  Your options are endless.  Have fun with it!

Approach this with a grain of salt.  For best practice, utilize quality curly haircare products as your styling aids and see if you like the results.
